Ek tha Tiger! Just 1411 left? No, it's 1410

Director Kabir Khan of this movie had prior work in the form of Kabul Express and New York to showcase. Was Kabul Express better than New York? Was New York better than Ek Tha Tiger (EKT)? To me answer to them is YES. And by this logic I dread waiting Kabir Khan's next. EKT never stands on it's feet inspite of a man who is currently riding a wave and having a time of his life. Even though it is a written off film, but going by Salman's luck, charm, presence, add-in anything that you want, this one will also go into the 100+ crore plus club.
EKT has fab locales, fab people and a fab budget to go. But what surprises me most, does a name matter or a star cast more than the script or the plot. YRF's repertoire of work speaks for itself. Look at a Band Bajaa Baraat or a Chak De. Strong scripts but relatively newbies to support (Yeah! I know Shahrukh and Chak De, don't forget, the movie rises or rose beyond him), alternatively you have a EKT and with SALMAN they would really like him to do the trick. 
Pretty much routine stuff. Spy meets spy, fall in love, move away from the spying world and then resurface again to finally disappear. The locale, the people and the music adds to the humdrum and nothing much beyond that. 
What stands out! I think this is a first time for Hindi cinema in Cuba! That is about it. Promotes loads of tourism- Turkey, Iraq ( :) ), Dublin, London and of course Cuba.
Even a veteran like Girish Karnad seems a tad tired and fed up. Salman does best what he is good at (still trying to figure out, what's that), Katrina stands out (the girl seems to be moving from strength to strength) and after ZNMD she is getting confident. What works for her, again trying to figure out. But she is good but may be getting typecast as the typical London girl (Namaste London, ZNMD and now this one). Blame her accent or something else.
Ranvir Shorey makes a valiant effort but there is nothing for him to salvage in an otherwise mindless goose chase!
YRF, please stand up to good, responsible cinema! It is about time. Meanwhile, what to remember of the movie? To me; I will remember the two complimentary Sunfeast Cream Treat packs with the movie tickets! Jai Ho! ITC, Boohoo! YRF!

Coming back to writing a piece after a very long time. I think about 3 months. Unfortunately, there was not a single film worth mention that released between now and September that is worth a shot.   Cinema is a medium to convey a message; message which are verbal or visual based. It has the power to alter narrative or perhaps the discourse too. In the 50's 60's and even more pronounced in the 70's and 80's film stars commanded a huge influence on the audience. Hair style, clothes and accessories were copied by audience blindly. Buno Haansh: If you have read the story, don't go

Like I said in the title, if you have the read the original, which I think came out in the last or last to last year, Sharodiya Shonkha, do not watch the film as it is a complete let down. But if you have not read the original by Samaresh Majumdar, the movie is worth a dekko. The way different characters starting from the protagonist Amal to the characters, Shohag, Rijula and even all sundry characters develop are no where close to the original. What further adds to the agony, the climax scene which has been altered keeping Dev's image into account, which is unfortunate. The film to put it simply lacks the desired drama and the suspense, which if one has read the book will understand. It looks like a narration currently and there are moments where the film falls in a trap of trying to do justice to the book and the creative license it wants to use.
